KALAKKAATTUPPAATTI ( 5 )

                                         KALAKKAATTUPPAATTI  (  5  )

KP lived a life of a gnani, taking  good or bad very lighhtly as suggested in Bhgavadgitha, giving equal weight to both.As mentioned earlier, she gave full freedom to her daughters -in-law in decision making regarding matters on daily routines and will be talking to them as a friend. This is one factor for my wife Usha eagerly awaiting for the week ends in order to meet her Mother_-in-law.at Kalakad.Every Friday evening we  had stood on the bus-stops in season or out of season, with packages and the two children waiting for bus  to our native place. Absolutely no grumble from Usha in this respect.Complete cooperaion from her!.She used to start packings and  to spend some good time in Kalakad She was also a good planner.                                                                                  KP was a horacious reader ,though not formally educated in schools  . She used to borrow Tamil weekly magazines and news  papers from neighbours and read  short stories and serial novels and increase her knowledge thereby. She had a good grasp of things and was endowed with fine memory. She used to tell us stories of Ramayana and Mahabharatha and other small stories but with great moral values wh ich in fact h as made us  live as responsible citizens of the society.

Occasionlly  she sang  also some Carnatic songs in addition to lullabies and cradle songs to make children sleep.Another important thing worth mentioning about her special capacity to  effectively use  "adages" and sayings in a very fitting manner. ,then and there. To give a complete list is humanly impossible. I can give only one or two examples.

             1)    Assume that KTV is about to enter the house and we are with her. She will say,"  ippo vandhuvar, yaarudaa en kovililae , aarn  naaththam ,pern  naaththam ? " KTV's questions would be authoritative.

               2) Suppose Usha and myself are disputing on some matter. Some times sound might increase(! )  KP will make us laugh by aying  "  Rendun rendaappai, rendum  kazhandaappai " There would end the quarrel if any.

Note : This adage is applicable to every couple !

The following is applicable and mostly true about  a daughter -in -law.    "  Edamillatha  edaththukku   aambadaiyaanaipppeththavalum vanthuttaa "   and  similarly.

KP has lived just as a shadow of KTV.   As for as I know she has never touched money with her hands.   Of course, we were all there to get things she demanded to run the family !

                            ( to be continued  )
