KALAKATTUPPAATTI ( 1 )

                                                    KALAKAATTUPPAATTI  ( 1 )

Kalakaattuppaatti ( K P )  hails from  a respectable family of  Freedom fighter, Sri Gomathi Sankara Dheekshithar  who sacrificed  his entire life for  the Independence of India from the British rule.    K P  was born in the  year 1916  in the month of June as the first   daughter of  Dheekshithar  and Sankarippaatti .She was not given any formal  education  in any school though  she had enormous capacity to grasp and was highly intelligent. Those were days when women had no right  to  education and at the proper age they had the role of  getting  married and taking care of the family as a subservient member to simply obey  the husband  and elder members of the family. They had no voice of their own.The girls also took that in the proper sense and they thought  the noble task of running the family had been entrusted on them by God himself and  so they were running the family peacefully without any murmur whatever   lending full support to their husbands. Good or bad ,that was the order of the day. .. K P  was a great  swimmer  in  her younger age . There was  a cannal very close to her house at  kallidaikurichi in one end of the street ,where all people  used to take  bath .It is is not an  exaggeration if I write that  she is best  swimmer among us  since she never  practised swimming in bathtub or pool for that matter., but  in real running water with full force..

K P', G and Sankarippaatti  had come to Karivelankulam  at about two miles away from Kalakad    to have dharsanam there..At that time they made a casual visit  to our house. At that  KP  saw  the ricepot  of big size on the oven is ready  for being taken out from the oven since rice has been already cooked . Non removal might spoil the froth.  K P ran to the spot in the kitchen did all that was required  with great ease. Feeling very happy over the same  it was decided that KP would be taken as the bride of KTV.,,,  This is how  KTV  KP  marriage was decided.

K P lived  as  a  maamiyaar  with a difference !     I  earnestly hope  her existing daughters -in -law will agree with me that she has been consistently  affectionate with them and never for once  she has  scolded any of them whatever  be the situation.. One daughter -in -law who does not exist now had the maximum enjoyment of  her company  because of  her vicinity to make  frequent visits to Kalakad..K P  never enjoyed freedom from her own  maamiyaar. but KP's daughters -in -law  enjoyed a lot.

                                            (  to be continued  )
